Once a user logs into WellCentive Gateway, he or she can access patient information in a variety of outside systems with one or two mouse clicks, such as hospital systems, labs, e-prescribing systems, EMR’s, etc. If a provider also uses WellCentive Registry, he or she can navigate from a patient’s WellCentive Registry chart directly into that patient’s results section in an outside HIT system. This can save a great deal of time for the busy practitioner.

A Better Health Information Exchange Model

Some communities decide to create Health Information Exchanges that collect data from a variety of sources in a region and store and display that data for access and use by physicians - essentially building a large, community-wide EMR system. However, this approach faces a number of challenges, including:

• High Cost - this type of HIE model is extremely expensive to build and maintain
  
• Lack of a viable business model - this type of HIE often struggles, because the end-users of the system - the physicians - are not always willing or able to financially support its high cost

• Lack of Community Engagement - some hospital systems and other data sources are concerned about sharing data with such HIE's for security reasons and are not comfortable sending data to such HIE's

It can be far more cost effective to take your providers to the data than it is to take the data to your providers.
